At my house, we love the color orange. It inspires playfulness, is bold, energized, and uniquely beautiful. Orange couch, orange tiles in the living room rug, orange essential oils to diffuse, orange ink in a tattoo… makes us happy. So, the other day when I was really in need of some inspiration, I was chuckling to myself when I opened my Instagram (social media site made up of photos) feed to photo of a girl hugging her dog while hiking. For some reason, I decided to click on the link to the photographer of the image, and all of the sudden I saw a couple, their two dogs, and their bright orange van.
Turns out this couple travels the country, living out of their van, working remotely, while hiking in their spare time, with their dogs always in tow. You see, my friends, this is a part of my dream life. While I do see myself having a home base in a mountain-side town, I see it as merely a hub for in-between travels. As I began to explore this couple’s Instagram page, I noticed an event the young lady was participating in. This led me to a very unique company that is doing the other part of my life’s dream –hosting outdoor women’s retreats! The goal of the retreats is to celebrate what connects us, rather than what causes us to compare and compete; while reveling in nature, challenging ourselves to new outdoor activities, and building a life-long community of women empowering women. I took all of this as a sign from the Universe; that, and the fact that, I have now seen more Sprinter vans in this past week than I have in my entire life. It’s on. Dream in full motion!
I decided to begin a closed group on Facebook for any fellow seekers, to serve as a safe space to share your dreams, hesitations, desires, and challenges. It’s a chance to be vulnerable, and to feel the support of a like-minded community. I will be coaching on the page, celebrating the wisdoms of others, and sharing as many life tools as possible! I would love for you to join us. Simply go to your Facebook menu (the three lines) and scroll down to Groups. Then search: Balanced Presence – Coaching Corner with Jessie Walter. I’ll happily accept your request, and you’ll be instantly surrounded with support!
To take it one step farther– so many people share with me about how they feel alone. Wanting to join in activities but not knowing anyone, or not having anyone that they feel would want to join them. Isolation can lead to depression, as well as, stall your dream life – I know because I did it to myself for years. To honor that person in me, who suffered during that time, I also decided to create a group just for adventures! It’s open to the public, it’s free, and it’s meant for everyone! My hope is to restore a sense of community to those needing it, and share a lot of laughs along the way. Our first outing is to a local street festival, to explore the music and tents, hopefully making new friends along the way! We’ll wrap up the two hours with a stop by a new brew pub that just opened up in walking distance from there. I hope it will prove to be a wonderful day for all of us!
It’s amazing how one photo on Instagram could put into motion, with greater propulsion, the dreams that I look to experience. I believe inspiration is all around us; it’s just a matter of us seeking to feel it. When was the last time you felt inspired? And, what did you do with that inspiration? Because, let’s be honest, there are times when we feel it but then when we are motivated to action, our fears creep back in and overshadow it. Often inspiration has us conjuring in our mind the big picture of where we want our lives to go; what we want to experience, and feel, in this lifetime. That can feel pretty overwhelming when we are looking at the picture as a whole. For me, I decided to start in a way that felt sensible to my current life. While I’d love to pull away in a big orange van tomorrow, to begin hiking with my beloveds, that’s not realistic. Yes, it will be at some point, but I have to respectfully get myself to that point. So, it’s about taking steps in that direction; genuine steps, smothered in beautiful inspiration, that move you closer to that picture, as a whole.
Hope to have you in the Facebook groups, and meet you on an outing!
